I still remember peeling the plastic off my newest James Taylor record, “In the Pocket” with the same anticipation that I felt with each new Beatles album release. I had seen him once in concert at Penn’s Irvine Auditorium. The stream of musical poetry stunned me, opened my heart and lifted up my mind.I’ve always been a sucker for the place where soul meets folk and R&B is always subtly and not so subtly in the mix with this guy. Though his in- between-songs patter clearly displayed the shyness and intensity of an introvert, he rocked the house got a standing O.I actually saw him in the Metropolitan Art Museum in NYC a couple weeks after the concert…three times! The shaman in me says, “pay attention; there’s a gift here,” when something like this happens and it did so even then. As my two dorm girlfriends and I were checking our coats, so was he…and he was clearly NOT thrilled by our presence and the possible prospect of swooning and such. No worries; we were there to see art. But I did notice the mirror of the “I”. Like Greta Garbo, he ” vanted to be alone.” and I could respect that.
I understand what it feels like to subjugate introversion to self-expression and not only openly embrace the terrifying, but choose to run fult-tilt into it and jump into the place far beyond fear and separation and even words. I am aware that extroverts too, have their ways of holding back. Involvement and engaging are not necessarily the same. And the wise ones among them also rise above the limitation of personality, awakening to true connection, softening the edges, opening the heart. What brave and magnificent beings we humans can be!
That, of course, was the gift: realizing that the inner voice that tells us to hold back- the ego, “is always playing the fool.” And when we listen to different lyrics, the music begins. It really is “better to shower the people you love with love.”

We say we want to be happy, we talk about happy, produce and consume products that promise happiness. Those of us who are on a conscious co-creation path are well aware of how important “happy” is in the creation process, so we care even more about ability to achieve and maintain mastery over our state.
To achieve this, we need to relegate the ego to a place far outside the moment-to-moment decision making process. We need to tell a different story to ourselves about life than the one the ego tells, which is that love, life, freedom, and joy are all dangerous. That God is vengeful and that we are not worthy to enjoy a happy life, dream though it may be. One of my favorite quotes about this mishegas- this crazythink- is from “A Course in Miracles.”
“IV. Seeking and Finding T-12.IV.1. The ego is certain that love is dangerous, and this is always its central teaching. 2 It never puts it this way; on the contrary, everyone who believes that the ego is salvation seems to be intensely engaged in the search for love. 3 Yet the ego, though encouraging the search for love very actively, makes one proviso; do not find it. 4 Its dictates, then, can be summed up simply as: “Seek and do not find.” 5 This is the one promise the ego holds out to you, and the one promise it will keep. 6 For the ego pursues its goal with fanatic insistence, and its judgment, though severely impaired, is completely consistent.”
Telling yourself sad stories, “Yes, but” stories? As Bob Newhart’s hilarious ultra-brief therapist character “Dr. Switzer” said, “STOP IT!!!!”
Sanity can be habituated by training the subconscious mind to let go of its flawed programming with spiritual hypnotherapy, Huna techniques, deep affirmative prayer, meditation, practice of the Course exercises, and by a host of techniques I included in my book, “Abundance Triggers.” May you be happy, may you be free, may you tell yourself more resourceful stories!

- Detail from mixed media painting “Recognition” by Kanta Bosniak
Recognition
I knew you right away.
A vast intelligence in the eyes
An energetic frequency.
A soul expression
clearer and more transparent
than the finest lens.
Present, powerful and real.
Throughout our journeys
we may have changed our roles,
But ever and always,
we have been friends.
And the Friend says, “Yes.”
I am both an author and a minister who officiates weddings and commitment ceremonies. When I was writing my newest book Love Poems I realized when I wrote this poem that it (and many others in the book) would work well as a reading in a wedding or and commitment ceremony. I invite wedding officiants and couples planning their special day to find in this sweet little book a rich source of readings to incorporate in their unique service. And please, write and tell me which ones you chose; I’d love to hear about how the poem or poems worked with your service!
Congratulations and All Best Wishes,
Kanta

I just saw a hilarious clip of Steven Colbert interviewing Maurice Sendak. Colbert tongue-in-cheek as usual, plays the supreme narcissist. Sendak, delightfully, plays himself. In response to a doltish query, Sendak says, “That’s a very interesting question. It’s just not interesting to me.”
While this sort of riposte may be neither conventional nor polite, it does not appear that these were highly held priorities for the author, and that’s one of the many reasons his books delighted and provoked the imagination. Besides, let’s face it, narcissists are terrorists and you can’t negotiate with terrorists!
I know a little something about narcissists, like most women who have ever dated. I’ve seen them up close and personal, made a study of them, and now can spot one at a thousand paces. And I can tell you one thing for sure. These are not people who love themselves. They loathe themselves. For them, a happy person is intolerable and an infinitely attractive target. They want to feed and demolish and feed some more off the results of the demolition. So, when dealing with them, I advise a full-body energy condom. And if you have to be rude, do so. Because they will take your kindness for weakness and needlessly waste your time and energy.
The Sendak “It’s just not interesting to me” comeback reminded me of an event a little over a year ago. I was at Kutztown University, an obviously happy person, giving a talk to a psychology class about my happy paintings with happy quotes on them. It was all too much for a staffer who had decided to sit in on my lecture. At the end, after the other people had come forward and spoken with me, he sidled up. I could feel the ick of his energy and I saw the inebriated look of a narcissist about to strike. Not unlike what I imagine the look of a wife-beater might be as he anticipates his pleasure. I wasn’t going to have any.
“I find the quotes confusing,” he said.
“You may find them confusing,” I said. “They are not confusing.”
He began again, “I’d like to give some criticism.”
“No thanks,” I smiled at him.
He stepped back, regrouped and tried again. “I think criticism is important and I want to tell you what I think about these paintings.”
“I’m not interested,” I said. “And now I have to pack up. Good-bye,” I said cheerfully and removed my attention completely.
I’ll leave you with a quote by another writer I admire, Erle Stanley Gardner, the author of the Perry Mason books. About criticism, Mr. Gardner quipped, “It’s a damn fine book. You got something to say, write it on the back of a check!”

When I was a 19 year old university student and yoga teacher, I was given the name Kanta by my meditation teacher. It means “beauty that shines from within” or “radiance.”
Through the years, my name has been a constant reminder to me of what is eternal and real: our spiritual essence. It has helped me to identify with That, even in moments when I felt shame, separation and unworthiness. … I am not my body. I am not my personality. I am not my mental mind. I AM spirit.
My personality enjoys the girl glamors of Maya. For me, clothes, makeup, and all that stuff is theater, fun, creative expression. I have come to understand and accept that meeting the worldly needs is not only OK, but good. It’s fine to love the happy dream, what ever “happy” may mean to us. In fact, it’s important, because when out body and personality needs are met, we have increased vitality to do what, as Charles Fillmore might say, what is there to be done by us.
May you discover what most pleases and revitalizes your personality. May you live your happy dream. May you find your inner Self, from which all truth and beauty radiate. And may That Light Within you shine brightly!

So much of advertisting and political spindoctoring is Bizarro World reframing. It takes truth and twists it inside out and backwards. Like the term “beef” being used to sell ground mostly fat and connective tissue. REAL reframing is when you help some one look at something with eyes of gratitude, and find freedom where they once saw limitation.I love my hypnotist and I love being a hypnotist. I love books and I love being a writer. I love New Thought Churches and I love being a minister. I love Satyagraha- Soul Truth, right use of word. May we use our word not to control or defraud, but to inspire, encourage and empower. May your words be as music, to align yourself and others to the truth of our being.

Sipping my coffee and eating Cinnamon Raison Ezekiel Bread and a banana. Looking out at the forest, open to thoughts flowing through, as they do. A conversation with a friend who tunes into the Akashic Records. Gratitude about a loving relationship. How I have learned! How perfectly our human connections give us exactly what we need to come into our power and beauty!
It would be interesting to know how we first met, what our history was. As I glanced at the farthest tree, I considered, this: If I could look at the book of life and see where life will take me now, what life holds for me, would I? No. The spontaneous wonder and joy of learning and adventure would be compromised. An animal ran along the tree branch. Too big to be a squirrel?
My mind shifted gears. It was a monkey. And I was a shaman walking through the forest, in mid-shift. I recalled the feeling in perfect immediacy, of becoming one with the tiger. I have always loved the big cats! It isn’t a literal tiger that walks with me. It’s a quality of fearlessness, strength and power.
I returned my focus once again to the forest, the faraway tree and what must have been a really, really big squirrel! May you walk in gratitude for your loves and learnings. May you contemplate your future with joyous anticipation, while being present now. May you become skilled at calling up the exact quality you need at any given now. And may your bananas always be sweet and ripe!
Blessings,
Kanta

Last night I enjoyed a very Mid-Atlantic meal at a favorite eatery. I’ve finally learned how to order cheesesteak in the south. You can’t get it with enough marinara unless you ask for “pizza steak.” Even then, you may need to ask for extra sauce.
One of my two conversational companions said she found “30 Rock” obnoxious. Since this is one of my very favorite shows, and since I so respect this person’s taste and discernment, her comment piqued my interest. As we moved on to other topics, some part of my mind continued chewing on this notion and I took it home, along with half of my styrofoam-boxed treat.
Because I believe that we are one, and that something that harms anyone harms all of us, my mind began working on this. I will not presume to know why she finds the show irritating, but I asked myself why I might find it so. And why was I not seeing the source of my own irritation? It came to me, by the time I arrived at home. I am a Pennsylginian. I have strong ties to the The Mid-Atlantic region, where I grew up and lived from ages 6 to 34. And I live in, spent my early, most formative years in, learned to speak in…Southwestern Virginia.
I lost my southern accent when we moved north, but I maintained such a love for the region that I moved back as a young mother. I travel, and I’ve spent chunks of time away from here, but this is where I have spent most of my adult life, and this is home to me.
I realized, I actually do find the perpetuation of the rural Southern stereotype obnoxious! I think the Kenneth character is funny, and I realize that humor often plays with stereotype. However, outside of my conscious awareness, I have felt uncomfortable with some of the material.
I find it interesting that Tracey Morgan’s character has a two-man entourage of erudite, well-read African-American men to balance his buffoonery. It was interesting to me that the writers felt they needed to to this, but did not apparently feel similarly called to present a smart southern foil for Kenneth.
I know there are conservatives who hate the show, but I’m not inviting ideological controversy here. 30 Rock’s writers are consciously expressing a politcal perspective, just as Fox news does, and people are free to watch what they like. What I do find interesting is how we filter out our own discomfort when perpetuation of stereotypes occurs, even sometimes, when it is our own heritage that is being slammed. My Pennsyl says “I’m sorry” to my Ginian.
I look forward to eating my leftover lunch, sitting on my deck in the sun, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains I love so much. Later, I’ll get on the phone and work with a Pennsylvania client to help her pass a test. One world; no “other.”
We are all learning this. We might as well face it; enlightenment is inevitable! Sooner or later, we will all pass all our tests, and having let gone of regional and all other temporal identifications, we will only identify with our Divine Source. Until then, may we laugh at ourselves…but kindly, I hope. And with empathy and compassion. May the taste of love be delicious in our mouths and minds!

I love movies, especially really, really good ones. Years ago, I co-wrote and illustrated a film review column called “The Screenheads.” It was fun seeing flicks on the newspaper’s dime and then chewing it over afterwards with my writing partner.
The lingering taste continued to delight and excite when all the forms of expression that comprise filmmaking came together in satyagraha. Soul truth gives us satisfaction. It feeds us, nourishes us, and arouses our joy. It offers us something we are ready to stretch into. It excites our learning centers and the very cells of our body and brain say “Yes!”
Though “Something the Lord Made” was released in 2004, I think it speaks eloquently to present concerns, reaching into the deepest shadow places we now see so clearly dramatized in the public arena. Vivien Thomas’s overcoming story shows him overcoming Old Paradigm attempts to marginalize him, not only as a black man but as a self-taught human being.
Thomas’s brilliance, diligent study and intuitive gifts changed our world and these very actions annoyed and outraged. Those who could not prevent him from offering his gifts took credit for his success. When his colleagues ultimately accept, celebrate and honor him for his immense contribution to medicine, we get to experience the demonstration of Higher Truth in action.
Because greed, racism, misogyny, homophobia and intellectual elitism are all part of the same bad dream of separation from Source, true awakening from one results in freedom from the rest. We are not of value because of outer conditions, but because we are, and when we are who we are, we are brilliant, beautiful, and expressive of that which “The Lord Made” in us and as us.
You are “Something the Lord Made.” Regardless of your color, gender, sexual preference, educational background, economic condition, and personal history. You were made to shine. You were made to demonstrate. You were made to inspire. You are the writer, the director and star of your movie, and the owner of your own screening environment. May your story unfold in ways that delight you. May you demonstrate the overcoming of your illusory limitations. And may your popcorn be fresh and just salty enough!
