Yes, But? “STOP IT!!!”

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

We say we want to be happy, we talk about happy, produce and consume products that promise happiness. Those of us who are on a conscious co-creation path are well aware of how important “happy” is in the creation process, so we care even more about ability to achieve and maintain mastery over our state.

To achieve this, we need to relegate the ego to a place far outside the moment-to-moment decision making process. We need to tell a different story to ourselves about life than the one the ego tells, which is that love, life, freedom, and joy are all dangerous. That God is vengeful and that we are not worthy to enjoy a happy life, dream though it may be. One of my favorite quotes about this mishegas- this crazythink-  is from “A Course in Miracles.”

“IV. Seeking and Finding T-12.IV.1. The ego is certain that love is dangerous, and this is always its central teaching. 2 It never puts it this way; on the contrary, everyone who believes that the ego is salvation seems to be intensely engaged in the search for love. 3 Yet the ego, though encouraging the search for love very actively, makes one proviso; do not find it. 4 Its dictates, then, can be summed up simply as: “Seek and do not find.” 5 This is the one promise the ego holds out to you, and the one promise it will keep. 6 For the ego pursues its goal with fanatic insistence, and its judgment, though severely impaired, is completely consistent.”

Telling yourself sad stories, “Yes, but” stories? As Bob Newhart’s hilarious ultra-brief therapist character “Dr. Switzer” said, “STOP IT!!!!”

Sanity can be habituated by training the subconscious mind to let go of its flawed programming with spiritual hypnotherapy, Huna techniques, deep affirmative prayer, meditation, practice of the Course exercises, and by a host of techniques I included in my book, “Abundance Triggers.” May you be happy, may you be free, may you tell yourself more resourceful stories!

Radiance

Thursday, April 26th, 2012
When I was a 19 year old university student and yoga teacher, I was given the name Kanta by my meditation teacher. It means “beauty that shines from within” or “radiance.”

Through the years, my name has been a constant reminder to me of what is eternal and real: our spiritual essence. It has helped me to identify with That, even in moments when I felt shame, separation and unworthiness. … I am not my body. I am not my personality. I am not my mental mind. I AM spirit.

My personality enjoys the girl glamors of Maya. For me, clothes, makeup, and all that stuff is theater, fun, creative expression. I have come to understand and accept that meeting the worldly needs is not only OK, but good. It’s fine to love the happy dream, what ever “happy” may mean to us. In fact, it’s important, because when out body and personality needs are met, we have increased vitality to do what, as Charles Fillmore might say, what is there to be done by us.

May you discover what most pleases and revitalizes your personality. May you live your happy dream. May you find your inner Self, from which all truth and beauty radiate. And may That Light Within you shine brightly!

Desire, Deservingness & Leaping

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Change is creative, and creativity requires leaps of imagination. To do this, you have to shake off resistance. The resistance of the false ego is no match for your own God given drive to be yourSelf. When allowed to fully operate, this drive is unstoppable. It will take you where you want to go. To feel it and let it yourself pay attention to it is part of your “Becoming Process.”**

The Becoming Process is a natural one, which you do anyway, when you’re really in the flow. One of the most potent and dramatic stages is “Desire.” This stage is activated with “deservingness.” You have to not only desire the thing, state or experience, but think it’s good, right and in Divine Order for you to experience it. This fires desire up so much that it attains that level of fierceness that makes you leap through resistance gladly and with gusto.

I love this statement so much that I included it in my first book* in the section on “Desire and Deservingness”: “I am leaping, I am leaping, I am leaping through my resistance with all the fierceness of my deservingness.”

It’s a leap year. So, leap!

Passing the Test

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

As a spiritual coach and certified hypnotist, I am often called on to help people pass tests. I grew up in an academic setting, literally. My father was a professor and college administrator. His rose to the top of his profession.  Eventually he became VP of two colleges and President of one. In my very young years, we lived on the campus of Roanoke College in Salem VA while Dad worked in Development and also coached the soccer team from obscurity to success. What was once our apartment house is now a college office building. My playground was the front lawn of the main building on campus.

Like my father, I also love coaching and development. Though my function is not to raise funds for an academic insitituion, I feel happy and excited when I help students develop the skills and confidence to excell in studies, pass tests, defend theses, interview for jobs, get jobs, express their gifts into the world…and enjoy the process of doing these things!

Virginia Tech is my “home school” because I live nearby, but I have helped and continue to work with high school, undergrads, graduate students, and people taking professional exams who live all over the US (and Europe), though phone sessions. Yale, Vassar, SUNY…the list goes on. I have coached athletes, engineering doctoral candidates, nurse aneasthesiologist, guys taking police officer tests, you name it. Perhaps most dramatic was my client who came to me for mental toughness and endurance he knew he’d need to pass the grueling achieve Army Ranger test. Problem-solving on very little sleep and food, while doing incredibly hard physical tasks for weeks.

What is the common theme in our work? All of us who take tests, which is to say everybody (are we not all learners?) share to some degree or other the erroneous belief in separation from Source. As we prepare for test-taking, we do plenty of nitty-gritty work with study and test-taking techniques. But the single most powerful lesson any one of us can learn is that we are loved and supported beyond measure.

When we know this, we can relax and much more easily access factual information from the brain and infinite information stored in the collective mind. We can call upon univeral energy to supply us with what we need, even in those extreme situations like Ranger school when our resolve and physical endurance is severely tested.

Are we not all in school? What are you learning? What tests would you like to pass? What gifts and strengths would you like to develop? How could tapping into reserves of inner knowing help you on your journey?

Om Times Review of “Lose Weight in Alpha State” by Kanta Bosniak

Lose Weight in Alpha State: Weight Loss as a Joyous Spiritual Journey
written & illustrated by Kanta Bosniak
Most of us could lose a few. And most of us have experienced the frustration and disappointment of “finding” what we lost, again and again. So every year there is a new barrage of diet and exercise books we buy with gritted teeth and good intentions. Author and veteran coach/hypnotist Kanta Bosniak posits that the way we think about and approach weight loss is crucial to our success. We asked her to elaborate on very different approach.

“The self-punitive, self-judgmental slave driver” doesn’t get the job done. It’s like putting the fox in charge of the chicken house. Yo-yoing is like a dance between The Punisher and the Saboteur, which are both guises of the Ego. Neither part of the Ego can help you, because that’s not their function. You have to go an entirely different zone if you really want success.  Big help comes from the Higher Self and is implemented by the Creative Self. Your Superconscious Mind and your Subconscious Mind do the magic together.”

Bosniak applies “The Becoming Process” model she introduced in her first book Surviving Cancer and Other Tough Stuff to weight loss. “There is a process we move through when we heal and transform. It’s a natural thing. Invite Spirit into your life, ask for guidance and you’re on a Becoming Path. I discovered it for myself by noticing and reflecting on my own process… what was working for me and what was working for my clients. It can be applied to most any area of life. And it works beautifully for weight loss.”

And, as in her first book, she shares some of her own inspiring story, and expertly guides the reader through each of the twelve stages of “Becoming” from Contemplation to Joy with a creative journal approach. “Ideas and theory are fine, but positive thinking needs to go to a deeper level. The subconscious mind loves story and play. Self-inquiry is fine, but self-inquiry with a pen in hand and a fresh box of colored pencils… Now your creative self is on the job. It’s like rocket fuel!”

We asked Bosniak if it was necessary to be a good writer or artist to do the creative journal portion of the book. “Not at all,” she laughed. “It’s all about self-discovery, and a little thing called fun. We’re hard-worked for fun. We must have it, we should have it. We deserve it. Will power will get us through two weeks… maybe. Fun sustains and strengthens us. That’s one reason I included my own goofy drawings. Inviting the silly opens you up. When you pick up the book, imagine sliding your critic over to the side, out of sight and out of the way. Now, you’re in an Alpha State. A state of pleasure, present with yourself and life. That’s a place from which you can create. The place where love and laughter live is the same place from which you launch your successful physical weight loss journey.”
